Anodizing

The electrolytic anodic oxidation of aluminum

Anodization is the ideal process for designing aluminum surfaces. It offers excellent corrosion protection, makes aluminum workpieces extremely weather-resistant and guarantees high abrasion resistance. And it also meets high optical requirements: whether matt or shiny, left in a natural tone or colored in bronze tones - the ELOXAL process opens up a variety of decorative design options. In the ELOXAL process (electrolytic oxidation of aluminum; also: anodization), a defined layer of aluminum oxide is formed on the material. This oxide layer, which is created in an electrolyte under the influence of direct current, is not simply deposited on the workpiece, but is created by converting the top metal layer into aluminum oxide.

Advantages of anodization

  • Quality: excellent corrosion protection, very weather-resistant, hard, abrasion-resistant, easy to clean
  • Appearance: The appearance of aluminum surfaces is permanently retained and additional colors come into their own.
  • Environment and sustainability: The reprocessing of anodized aluminum is easily possible through recovery.

Pre-treatment variants in accordance with DIN 17611 and EURAS/EWAA: The various pre-treatment variants open up a range of different design options in the area of surface structure and coloring of aluminum workpieces.

Pretreatment and surface structures

  • Degrease and deoxidize: draw marks, scratches, chafe marks and other surface defects remain visible
  • Sanding: matt, relatively even surface - coarse to fine sanding marks may be visible
  • Brushing: bright, even surface - visible brush strokes, partial removal of draw marks, scratches, etc.
  • Polishing: shiny surface - partial removal of draw marks, scratches etc.
  • Sanding and brushing: bright, even surface - removal of grooves, scratches, chafe marks and hidden signs of corrosion
  • Grinding and polishing: shiny, smooth surface - elimination of grooves, scratches, chafe marks and hidden signs of corrosion
  • Staining: rough, matt surface - partial compensation of grooves, scratches etc.
  • Color variants: Colorless (EV1), Lightest, Light, Medium, Dark Bronze and Black (C31-C35)
